15K! Woot!

Tue Nov 3, 2009, 8:17 PM
Hey I just wanted to say thanks for checking out my work, the comments, favs, and all of the feedback I've received. I really appreciate and it means a ton to me. I'm not that popular of an artist here on dA, but it's great hearing from you guys and what you think about my work.

I'd have a lot more animations posted here, but they can't be less than 10 seconds so I post them on vimeo, but I do post what I'm doing at school and my animations on my blog. You can check that out at [link].

=w1ngs0fate I will be getting around to some designs of Axel probably at the end of the semester.

I've been really busy this semester with my last traditional animation course and preparing for my thesis project. I'm working on a 2d animated short film. I'm in the storyboarding and animatic phase at the moment. It should be pretty funny. I'm sure you'll be seeing some concept and character design work for that in the near future.

I hope you're all doing well and I'm always open for commissions or things to draw for fun. :)

Cheers,

Adam

Sketches!? Drawings!?

Thu Apr 9, 2009, 12:24 PM
Hey guys and gals!

I'm dedicating this journal entry to you guys. :) I've decided I want to take the time to thank the people who watch me or check out my art. All you've got to do is let me know what you'd like me to draw you and I'll make a list of everyone's ideas or things they want and I'll get started on doing some drawings. So if there is any certain series or fan art that you'd like to see let me know or if you have an OC that you'd like me to draw let me know. This isn't a commission list so throw down whatever you'd like to see and I'll see what I can do.

The List:

=w1ngs0fate - Axel
*Alamus - Axen (I know you didn't ask, but I've been wanting to do something with her for you for a while now :) )
=sayda - Sayda
~N8KELLY - Phil & Elliot

Rant + UPdate

I'm starting to think that dA is only filled with teenagers who only enjoy fan art and boobs. I have two deviations in my gallery that contain one of each and they are my most popular pieces witch annoys me. It sure proves what sells these days. I just find it irritating that I could post something original or a traditional piece of art and it seems like no one will like it, but I'm sure if I post up another busty chick or a picture from a popular series I'll be crowned as the next best artist on dA.

What I'm wondering is where are all the artists at and what happened to originality? What's a guy got to do to get some feedback on something? Don't get me wrong there are a ton of talented people here, but this is a community of artists right, and I would think a fellow artist would want to help out his buddies. I haven't posted as much on dA these days because half of the time it feels a little pointless to. I get more of a response from people on my blog or facebook then a I do here. Don't worry I'm not leaving or anything. I'm just ranting because I'm tired of seeing boobs and fan art everywhere.

In other news, school started back up this week. I'm having the busiest semester in my entire educational career. I draw nonstop all week on various projects, eat, sleep, and walk 2 miles to class. I can't wait till summer. It's going to be so nice. I have a new animation in the works and some character design stuff that I haven't put up here yet because they're just the drawings and I would like to clean them up a bit in photoshop before posting them, but I haven't much time to do so. Since I will have some more time this summer, I'm looking forward to working on more animations and some new illustrations. Is there anything you'd like to see more from me? Comics? Animation?

I hope all is well with the rest of you guys. Who's excited for Pixar's UP!? I can't wait. It's going to be awesome!

Adam

The Portfolio of Adam Knight

is up and running!

Check it out. I just re-did my entire website this weekend. I like it a lot better now and it should be easy to manage. Someday when I learn how to make flash sites it will be really cool, but for now I think this works best since I'm still in school and I'll be updating it often.

Let me know what you think!

2008 Year End Review

Tue Jan 27, 2009, 11:38 AM
2008 was a crazy year for me. It was my first year out of college. My contract at a game company had just expired and I did a little bit of product design to start the year off. I was having difficulties finding jobs in Chicagoland and was thinking about starting a graphic illustration portfolio so I could land a job in the art field. I figured I could work some where and teach myself and study 2d animation in my spare time. I thought a lot and the more I thought about it the more I thought I'd just be wasting my time. So I put together a portfolio and sent it off to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I was accepted into their Masters program for 2d animation and moved back to Iowa for the Spring and Summer. I left the area I had lived in for 3 1/2 years and all of my friends to move on with my life. You learn that sometimes growing up sucks, but hopefully in the end it will all be worth it.

The day before I moved back home I met a lovely girl online who liked my art work and that girl right now is my girlfriend crazy enough, which has been absolutely an amazing experience. If you want the full story on us message me or I can tell you in person. It's too long for this blog at the moment. Going home was good and it was bad. It felt good to be home for a while and to be able to see my family and hang out with my brothers. The bad stuff was ridiculous and lets just say there was a heated argument and a not needed family meeting. In the end of all of this family stuff I learned a lot and I was really hurt by it. I was shocked really and I'm sorry I'm being a little vague. Lets just say I never thought a dog could cause so many problems within a family.

August soon came and I spent my birthday in San Francisco moving into student housing, meeting the roomie, and spending time with the new girlfriend. I learned that housing sucks, the Academy is pretty sweet, my classes rock, and I'm so pumped to be an animator. I now have my own place in the city with my puppy Ringo and 2nd semester classes start this week. It's amazing how much can happen with in a year. My entire life changed and it seems like it happened so fast. Oh and I also got to meet three animators in person and get my books and stuff signed by them. They were Richard Williams (Who Framed Roger Rabbit), Bill Plympton (successful independent animator), and Eric Goldburg (Genie from Aladdin). It was very inspiring to meet them. Also if you are into animation, I highly recommend Eric Goldburg's new animation book called Character Animation Crash Course!

2009 is going to be a hard year for everyone it seems, but I hope it's going well for you. It feels good to be back in the city and back in school. You can be sure to look forward to more updates from me as school gets going. Here are my classes for this semester:
